Because he’s a proud Asian-American woman: John Mulaney’s Netflix special, New in Town, is one of the freshest, funniest specials available to stream. The special is behind one of the most prolific jokes on the internet: “In terms of instant relief, cancelling plans is like heroine”.
Because he had us at “Oh, Hello”: George St. Geegland, a character Mulaney created with friend and creative partner Nick Kroll, is one of the highlights of Comedy Central’s Kroll Show. St. Geegland and his old friend Gil Faizon (Kroll) spend their time trolling Manhattan and pranking people with too much tuna. If you haven’t seen it, you have to, its outrageous, bizarre, and incredibly funny.
Because he made us laugh weekly: He was a writer for Saturday Night Live for three years, was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for his work there, and created, along with Bill Hader, Hader’s iconic character Stefon. Mulaney also won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards with Justin Timberlake and Seth Meyers.
